"While it's not a fancy 5 star resort, it is very clean and well organized. The app is not updated and would be helpful to have locations/descriptions and times each eatery are open (buffet, pizza, etc) and the one screen outside the saloon with the schedule is hard to find w/o staff help.
The activities, especially by the pool, were great for all ages! Kids ages 11-17 were beyond happy with the experience they had at this resort. Food was also really good and well rounded!
The reservations being a courtesy but not necessity, wasn't necessarily true. We waited over an hour for a potential table at Marco Polo because there was no reservation. It wasn't like we could put our name on a list and be told we'd be able to eat there that night."
"Very clean, professional and friendly staff, and very responsive, family friendly pools, they have a small games room for tweens and teens for evenings. Beach is lovely, clean and smooth sand, although the current was too strong the week we were there so we couldn’t swim in the ocean. Buffet was very good for breakfast and lunch, but was repetitive and somewhat limited selection for dinners, Italian restaurant was excellent in food and service. Good Mexican performance show in evening. Great stay overall. "
"I was a bit apprehensive after seeing some of the complaints from others about this resort. I am very glad I went ahead and booked. There is a lot to love about this resort, and only a few small negatives.
This resort is very sprawling and covers a lot of ground. With how it is built into the jungle, it feels like a mini adventure park just walking around. They have several Mayan ruins, lots of kept and unkept wildlife, like monkeys, deer, and macaws. The main pool is huge and beautiful. It is slightly brackish (salty), but this I think is actually a plus. There are several kids areas and a very nice daycare program and play area. For us the ocean cove was a hit. Fish, activities, sand. Wonderful for relaxing. A snorkeling area, though water there is rougher and the entry needs work.
Many other reviews complained of food and rooms being dated. For the premium restaurants, The Oriental restaurant is the best, The Mexican was okay, the rest were not a good fit for us. Buffets here are excellent and they clearly spend time and staff them to make it a premium experience. I highly recommend the buffets. Huge variety of food, most of which is very well prepared. Deserts and baked goods were very tasty everyday.
As for the rooms, yes, they are showing their age some, but the beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, maintained, and everything worked as it should. Their wristband room keys are awesome. Common areas are beautiful and clean. "
