Highlights of the National Museum of Mexican Art
Stories told in both English and Spanish lead you through the space and highlight the eclectic culture of Mexican art. Temporary displays have included Dia de Muertos exhibitions, showcases of current Mexican spaces in Chicago, and much more.
In the Ephemera collection, you’ll find a staggering display of posters and other items highlighting Mexican performances and art exhibitions, the Chicano Movement, and more. The Pre-Cuauhtémoc displays showcase works dating back before the death of the last Aztec ruler, Cuauhtémoc, and offers relics from several ancient Mexican cultures, including Michoacan, Mayan, and Remojadacan. The museum also features drawings and prints, paintings, sculpture, photography, folk art, and textiles.

You’ll find the National Museum of Mexican Art located southwest of downtown Chicago at the intersection of South Damen Avenue and West 19th Street. Tours are offered by appointment, so if you’d like to dive deeper into the history of the exhibits, be sure to call ahead to schedule. Since admission is free, donations are essential to help the museum offer educational events and upgrades to displays.
