The Wren’s Nest is a historic museum situated in the house of a beloved author, and a national landmark in Atlanta, Georgia. The Queen Anne-style house was built in 1870, and was once the home of Joel Chandler Harris, the treasured author of classics like "Uncle Remus Tales" and "Brer Rabbit."
Today, the Wren’s Nest operates as a museum and cultural centre, celebrating storytelling and folklore from African and Indigenous heritages. You can tour the home to take in the architecture and artifacts.The centre also operates an educational centre, hosting workshops and community events throughout the year.

Highlights of The Wren’s Nest
Officially known as the Joel Chandler Heritage House, The Wren’s Nest was originally built in 1870. Joel Chandler Harris lived in the home from 1881 until his death in 1908. Harris wrote more than 20 books while living in The Wren’s Nest, as well as various articles and editorials for magazines and newspapers.
The organisation that operates The Wren’s Nest today offers tours of the historic home, which still contains original furnishings and features throughout. Additionally, the organisation hosts writing programmes for Atlanta-area youth, as well as storytelling events, community workshops, and educational programmes.

Each Saturday at 1 pm The Wren’s Nest hosts weekly storytelling events for children, so be sure to plan your itinerary. Discounted tours of The Wren’s Nest are available for students, seniors, and groups.
Free parking is available at The Wren’s Nest, and can also be reached by public transport via MARTA and bus lines. Additional historic sites nearby include the West Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hammond’s House, Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and the Atlanta Beltline. You'll find many excellent restaurants in the area as well for lunch or dinner after your visit.
