The Cabildo highlights

Throughout history, The Cabildo has played an influential role in the area and beyond. In fact, this was the site on which the transfer ceremonies for the Louisiana Purchase took place, as did several landmark court cases. Information for all of this can be found inside amongst various displays.

Within the museum, you'll find various exhibits highlighting local culture and history. One of the more intriguing segments showcases the struggle that the unique New Orleans culture has faced in integrating into the larger American identity. In the aftermath of Katrina, the exhibits became particularly New Orleans-centric even amongst exhibits about Louisiana as a whole.
