The Grand Stark provided us an exceptional stay. Our Grand King room was clean, modern and quite cozy which helped make us feel super comfortable settling in.
Some things that should be noted, in my opinion, for other travelers in terms of chosing this hotel-- Valet parking curb was sometimes full so we'd have to circle around a time or 2 in order to pull in. There was always one person working so it didn't move very quickly. Secondly, valet closes for the night at 11pm so you have to be in around 1030pm to ensure youre in on time. This was a little bit of an inconvenience for us. There will definitely be outside noise (they provide earplugs) especially on the weekends with the crowd at the bar next door but we still slept fine without the ear plugs. There are also no black out curtains as the coverings are shutters if youre sensitive to light. When addressing the unhoused situation in Portland, yes you will see lots of unhoused people everywhere but no one bothered us, we even walked to a bar a few blocks away at midnight with no problems. The restaurant was good if you like fancy but the diner next door was also good for a quick meal. Overall, still great.
I'd like to highlight the friendliness and general knowledge of every staff member we did encounter. It was in this area that the Grand Stark really stood out for us. They answered every question we had and gave so many recommendations that our original tourist plans went out the window with no regrets.
