Wallpaper peeling off the walls, paint peeling off the ceiling, awful smell of damp in the bathroom, net curtains stained with dirt, curtains fraying, carpet stained and threadbare, wallpaper above bed stained, bedside cabinets stained with watermarks and walls, paintwork everywhere stained with scuffmarks. It was a tiny room that also had loud traffic noise from the dual carriageway. An absolutely vile room that shouldn't be allowed to be sold as accommodation. We were moved into a better maintained room, however this one too has stained carpets and furniture and still needs. It was clean (where possible) the bed comfortable and the shower excellent.
Having read responses to some reviews, I understand that it may be a big ask to upgrade the rooms within a budget, but guests should be made aware at the time of booking whether they are allocated a refurbished or non-refurbished room. Arriving at a hotel to be greeted with room 204 is not a pleasant experience and certainly took the shine off our much anticipated break.
Reception area, bar and restaurant have obviously had a refurb fairly recently and was decent. However as you go up the stairs, Gaffa tape holds the stair carpet down and a massive ceiling waterstain greets you and things just seem to get worse from there.
Staff were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our evening meal in the restaurant, however this was by far the worst accommodation I have encountered.
