Not well suited for English speaking tourists
We circumnavigated Sicily in 10 days and stayed in 6 different towns. Siracusa was our last sightseeing stop. We chose to stay in Floridia to give easy access to the Catania airport for an early flight. Of all our lodging spots, B&B Mediterraneo was the least prepared for our arrival and provided the lowest level of service. It is actually a suite of rooms on the 3rd floor of an apartment building. The location warrants detailed instructions for arrivals. I arrived at dusk which added to the challenge of finding the place. There’s an access gate preventing cars from getting to the rear of the building where the entrance is. I walked completely around the building three times until I finally thought to check my email… I had been on the go all day. The email included a phone number which put me in contact with the owner. There was a significant language barrier to overcome. After a lot of frustration, we finally got into the building and met the owner. She gave us a remote control to activate the access gates for parking. She had to take a child to school in the morning, which interfered with her ability to provide breakfast. So she went to get a voucher at a cafe a few blocks away. The room was well outfitted, but there was plenty of noise at night from TVs in other rooms in the suite. Floridia is not a prime tourist town, so the owner is probably not used to getting lots of English speaking tourists. I wouldn’t recommend this spot for lodging.
