After an excellent stay in March 2018 shortly after the hotel opened (see 10/10 review below), we returned this year. While the rooms and facilities naturally remain impressive only 10 months on, it was like a different hotel in terms of service. No longer the superlative standards the Four Seasons brand is known for, with all requests fulfilled graciously, but instead a series of problems starting before we even arrived, with various concierge and reservation team members emailing at different times with duplicated questions ignoring information and requests we had already communicated. Then during the stay, there was a general tendency for the staff not to take responsibility for sorting out your problem themselves, but to try to pass it onto someone else when they felt it was outside their narrowly defined job description (e.g. reception staff refusing to make reservations which they viewed as the concierge’s job, even when the concierge was busy). Only the ski room staff were properly helpful, and they were the only people I recognized from last year. Everyone else though pleasant, seemed young and somewhat clueless- big question as to whether they are employees of Four Seasons themselves and subject to their training, or whether they are seasons workers for the Rothschild Group, taken from the general pool that services the group’s other (cheaper) hotels and restaurants in Megeve – not really acceptable given the huge price premium here.
