Imagine 30+ units scattered in a large and lovingly tended garden, very comfortable beds with excellent linen, and a standard of service rarely found anywhere at a mid-range establishment. During our three night stay early in 2018, my wife and I had the feeling that we were welcome visitors to a friend’s home – the sort of friend who’ll make sure you get good support from your electric bike rental place when the batteries died, and who’ll get up at four a.m. to send you on to the Mandalay boat with a breakfast box in hand.
Yes, the Ruby True’s cottages could use a face-lift; in particular we older folks would appreciate better lighting and brighter walls. The shower head and controls could be updated with individually adjustable apparatus, and there could be more hooks and a larger tray or shelf to hold bathroom gear. The wi-fi signal is strongest near the office and dining room; we suppose there are ways to enhance the signal elsewhere on the property.
We were told that the Ruby True has a new owner who’s planning to renovate. If this is so, pray that the work is done thoughtfully, with care to preserve what makes this inn so delightfully retro.
