Quality of sleep
It is amazing that during a whole week we could not get one single night of a full relaxing sleep. Either because cars were buzzing their horns all night, motorbikes accelerating like hell, or ambulances going back and forth until 5 in the morning. If that was not enough every single day about 4 in the morning, prays were ‘broadcasted’ from a mosque nearby, by means of a loudspeaker!
Adding to this, the last night the wind was blowing so strong that the door to the balcony, which had a finger thick gap to the gutter, clattered in the wind all night which kept us awake.
Meals: breakfast and dinner
Breakfast is not bad (fresh juices, ready-made eggs and crepes), but there is too much focus on cakes and sweets. Bread (baguette and small dough balls) and cheese (only one sliced type and - sometimes - fresh cheese) assortment, is just unreasonable.
Service
All in all, this is probably what makes the largest difference for other 5 stars’ hotels. Most of the staff is amateur. In a French speaking country, it is common to meet the lady who is serving you the eggs or the hotel housekeeper who does not speak… French! Staff makes up the room but forgets to replenish the toilet paper or the bathing towels.
Another situation very common is to share the same lift with the staff (either for laundry, room service, or luggage), i.e., there is no service lift so, going from ground floor to the 4th may take you two minutes!
