Decor of the room is outdated, although fitting for the property type, I suppose. Shower pressure was really poor. We stayed in the summer months, but I'd imagine in the winter it would get very cold, as the windows aren't great for keepuing out drafts and we had a fire exit in our room that led to the street. It was covered by a curtain and cushions to stop a draft, so be aware if coming out of summer season.
Upon arrival I had a really good impresion, the staff member who welcomed us, as he was friendly and helpful. However, we went for dinner there one evening and got told it was table service. After about 15 mins of waiting we got up to leave. A waitress came over and said she was the only one working and it was very busy. Fair enough, but shouldn't really be an issue for the customer - look to get more staff, especially on busy nights. Ordered drinks, which were sat at the bar for 10 mins before being brought over - it took another patron to bring this to the attention of bar staff. Food was average, which was a real shame as we'd read some good reviews about this. It's definitely a pub for locals and you could be at risk of feeling like an outsider. Service with a smile wasn't really a thing.
Breakfast was good - we really liked the staff member who was in charge of breakfast - very welcoming and chatty.
The area is great, just down the road from the main street with some pubs, a fish and chip shop, outdoor clothing stores, etc. Good place to use as a base.
