I planned a 2 night stay at Casa San Marcos in Quito on the 11th and 12th of June 2021. We had 2 rooms as I stayed with some friends. Our stay was uncomfortable and I would not recommend this hotel for any future business. We showed up, dropped off our luggage and went to dinner. For perspective, I travel to other countries several times a year and understand the importance of comfort and customer service.
Dangerous conditions and extremely sensitive antiques:
The hotel is littered with seemingly expensive pieces of furniture, paintings, and other antiques. We stayed in rooms 1 and 3. Room 1 had a very heavy room divider and there was only a short distance between it and the bed for access to the room. This piece was not placed in a safe location and after it was inadvertently touched, it fell and could have injured me or any tenant severely.. The hotel was adamant we need to pay $80 cash for this piece, but was unable to place it on a credit card or deliver an invoice. Reportedly this several hundred pound piece of furniture is worth $3000 and the damage we caused was a reported $80, but after discussion, Paulina was able to lower this to $40. This inconsistency and her aggressive style started the discomfort that followed.
Accountability and hotel leadership, doesn't exist. We left the hotel in the middle of the night, scared what could follow up after a spending a night here and the charges , they can come up with. So please choose a different hotel.
