Initially when you look at the photos that they have on online you may think that this is going to be an amazing selection for the price point they have. It seems they have spent some money to renovate the hotel lobby, however, the rooms were cheaply renovated and what topped it off for me was that there was NO BEDSHEET ON THE MATTRESS?!?! They put a mattress topper on top of an old mattress… with no cover…
Also, watch out because only the rooms you pay more for are slightly renovated (I know this because I asked for the upgrade) they had me on the non-renovated floor at first where the whole floor smelled of smoke from cigarettes and they claimed my room was a “non-smoking” room. Not only that, but in general the bathroom and rooms are extremely small, the bathtub is big enough to fit a 7 year old child (although in general I believe that most accommodations are small in Japan?) and it smells horrible like an old folks home in the there.
Now let’s get to the fun part! There is 0 sound proofing in the walls of this hotel, because I kept waking up to people having intercourse, opening/closing their doors all night, talking/screaming/moaning, the TV, even people hanging their clothes on the rod!! You can hear the most smallest of noises from upstairs/behind/in front of you.
The positive aspects: unlimited amount of toiletries, breakfast buffet is not bad, 10 minute drive from Ueno Station, polite staff.
