Upscale Mediterranean style for the adventurous and budget-conscious traveler.
Located a couple of walking minutes down a rather dodgy block littered with trash and various properties in disrepair, Johnny’s is an oasis in the generally depressed area of Monterrico. The food was good, the staff was fantastic and the property was beautifully maintained in some parts and a work in progress in others.
We had one of only two rooms with an ocean view, which meant blaring music on Friday and Saturday night until midnight and 1:00 a.m. respectively. If you’re in one of the oceanfront rooms, you’ll be situated directly above the sound system. Saturday night’s party was festive, attracting visitors from all over the region with a full dance floor of traditionally partnered pairs. On other nights we enjoyed the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore.
The room was spacious and suite-like with a separate bedroom, lounge area, bathroom and waterfall shower, however repairs such as the shower not completely draining, the shower window not capable of fully closing and a door that clearly suffered from previous break-ins. There is no safe in the room. Our spacious deck included a refreshing splash pool, which was perfect for cooling off while lounging in the sun.
