I have never stayed in a "Bed and Breakfast" in the United States that lived up to that description until staying at the Baer. This B&B was stunning historic beauty from the doors to the floors, and our hosts were absolutely lovely! This hotel is definitely for leisure, not a business trip. The front desk has ltd hours, so arrange checking beforehand. Also, the home-cooked breakfast is served family style with other guests at 8:30 am sharp. I loved that!
The other guests around our giant 300-years-old breakfast table were from Italy, Germany, Colorado, and beyond. After only two days of communal breakfasts we were trading stories and meeting up for coffees.
I have stayed at the Mulberry (down the street) several times and that place is great for a modern-cool kinda vibe, but if you really want to get the feel of what it might have been like to live in a post-war era family home, then this is the place for you!
Our hostess Patricia gave us a full oral history of the home (with historical Vicksburg context) at our last breakfast. The Baer is only a few blocks from the main street in Vicksburg and there is ample, secure parking. One nice touch was that they posted daily notices in the lobby of which nearby-restaurants were open.
The one suggestion I would make is that in the room described as having a "sitting area", there could be an extra chair or two so that you could comfortably hang out with a few people around the table and not all on one couch.
