Growing up in this area, I was familiar with this hotel as it WAS. I never had need to stay there -- but also probably wouldn't have. The upgrades, renovations, attention to details (inside/outside) were surprising for the price. Definitely not 5 star but well worth the investment. The only reason I didn't give a FULL 5 star is primarily due to check-in (3pm): I arrived appx 3:10pm. Nobody was there with no sign, "bell", etc. After waiting a few minutes, I called the only number listed in the office/desk. The man who answered simply said, "There's nobody there, but I'll be there in about 15 minutes." I had no choice but to wait. (I'd already paid. Non-refundable.) He did finally arrive. He did "upgrade" my room to a king and accommodated my ground floor request. Otherwise, my stay was fairly quiet and uneventful (good shower, comfortable bed, TV worked great, 2 complimentary waters in the fridge, clean inside and out, etc.). Would recommend for an economy stay just know there appears to be no full-time desk staff, so you may wait... or, if there's a maintenance issue... It's a trade, I suppose. :)
