We were enthused about staying at the iconic Marcus Whitman despite the $300+ per night, but it was very disappointing! We had two rooms. We requested early Check In because we had to leave by 5 for a wedding event. One room was ready when we arrived at 3:45. Check-in was at 4 but the second room was still not ready at 4:15. When I complained I was told there was a shortage of towels and they were looking for more to stock the room. The next day we were out of our room all day and it was never cleaned. Again we had to leave by 5 for a wedding ceremony. At 4:15 we got a knock asking if we wanted housekeeping service—I said “in half an hour please.” I was told they were going off duty in a few minutes and our room would not be cleaned. They handed us a few towels. The rooms were dark with terrible lighting. I had to use the light on my phone to find items in my suitcase. The next day when we were checking out, the elevator was broken so we had to lug everything down the steps. They did not have any bell service. When I complained, I was told they would deduct the $25 amenity fee for each day/room. Given that there are no amenities, I was curious what the fee was for and was told it was for the coffee service in the lobby and the $15 voucher for the hotel bar/restaurant.The one time I did ask for coffee, the service in the lobby was gone and the restaurant was closed so I was out of luck. The staff was mostly nice, breakfast in the restaurant was excellent, but that’s about it.
