The Black Bottle markets itself as Winchester’s only self-service wine bar. Once inside you’ll see what they mean. Clever wine cabinets display an ever-changing selection of international wines. All you do is top up your card with credit, choose your tipple, and let the machine pour for you. You’ll happen across this spot as you near the River Itchen down Bridge Street.
The bar itself is spread across 5 rooms, each with its own wine dispenser. Wine-tasting events take place throughout the year and there are tasty meat and cheese platters if you get a bit peckish. The Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium has a fantastic range of fun activities and events that will spark kids’ interest and educate and inspire adults. Many of its events take place during the day, but there’s also an exciting evening programme of events that includes lectures and shows.
The Science Centre and Planetarium offers a regular, year-round schedule of movies, arranged in conjunction with the Winchester Film Society. The selected films are culturally rich, focusing on foreign and independent titles. There are also space-themed lectures and even live music events that use the planetarium’s domed ceiling to full advantage.

The Royal Oak in Winchester is among the oldest pubs in England. Parts of the building traced back as far as 1002 and its pub credentials date back to the 1600s.
