6/10 Bueno

The Ryder is a beautiful hotel! I definitely enjoyed it's appearance the most. All the employees were very courteous and kind.
However, the layout proved odd. Having to take an elevator up to the third floor, walk down two hallways to get on yet another elevator and then walk down two other hallways again. The stairs ended up being much quicker (which was fine with me, but my friends complained it was annoying after we walked around all day).
The phone in our room did not work when we arrived. We called the hotel/reservations line, who then attempted to call the Front Desk for us, but no one answered. Since we were in and out of the room for the stay, we just decided to relay any requests we had to the Front Desk directly.
I LOVED being able to text the valet to pull my car around. That is a very convenient feature that not even some Five Star properties don't even offer.
My only actual complaint is that I was billed after I checked out for an additional 12 dollars and some change. Unsure if that is just a pending charge, but found it odd because I settled my charges at the desk and did not visit any of the other outlets before leaving. I also tipped the bellman/valet in cash.
Overall though it was a pleasant experience. The hotel is in a perfect location to be able to walk around downtown Charleston. Especially so if you want to get tons of shopping done on King St.
