The Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham offers 4 floors featuring over 200 themed displays of exhibits and artefacts related to the past, present and future of science and technology. The museum also features extensive collections of vehicles, including aircraft, locomotives, trams, cars, steam engines and other machinery.
The science museum opened in 2001 and was an evolution of the original 19th-century Birmingham Collection of Science & Industry and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The museum is a tribute to science and technology, focussing on how these pursuits have shaped society and will continue to do so into the future.

Highlights of the Thinktank Science Museum
Among the museum's most recent highlights is the Spitfire gallery that pays tribute to the industry that produced the famed World War II fighters. This gallery displays actual Spitfire fighters, a leather flying helmet that was worn by Helen Kerly and a variety of artefacts related to the industry.
Other highlights of the exhibit include a Hawker Hurricane fighter, a historic locomotive, historic Mercedes Benz and Austin 7 automobiles, and a Woolrich generator. Other popular exhibits involve a living history gallery of both modern and fossilized animals and a Futures gallery focused on predicting where technology will go in the future.

What to know before you go to Thinktank
While the original museum was free, the current Thinktank requires a fee for entry. A car park is available a few minutes' walk from the museum. Bike racks are available onsite. Children ages 12 and over may visit unaccompanied, but those under the age of 12 must be supervised.
The museum reserves the right to search bags and property for security reasons. Baby changing rooms, lockers, and an unmanned cloakroom are also onsite. Visitors can enjoy a meal at the cafe or find souvenirs at the gift shop. The museum is fully accessible and assistance animals are welcome.
