What I like about it: 1) Offers free do-it-yourself laundry service on 8th floor. They have sigh up sheet for both washer and dryer. Two washers and one dryer. If the previous person doesn't come to pick up his/her stuff on time, you can call the front desk to have house-keeping staff come and pick it up to vacant either the washer or dryer for the next person to use. 2) Unlimited supply of bottled water - two free ones inside of refrigerator in each room. The building / room is as you would expect from a 5 star hotel. What really sets it apart is the incredible staff and remarkable breakfast. Worth every penny and the perfect place to stay if you would like to treat yourself in Shanghai.

This is historic hotel. I stayed here 30 years ago and came back, did not feel any aging. Amazing place and location. Will stay here again for next trip.

It is a very nice place to stay- very comfortable room, and friendly, helpful staff. There is lots of activities in Shanghai, and this hotel is not far from them, with subway station 1 minute away.

Room is better than I expected and covenantally close to the airport with a shuttle

On checking in, we were told that we were booked in the Garden Tower, which was an old structure from 1987 and showed its age, and were encouraged to upgrade to the Valley Tower, that was only a few years old. I was surprised at such a significant disparity in the condition of the two towers, especially at the Shangri-la. The room was huge with a nice view of the mall next door and the downtown area. Service was great. Easy access to everywhere.

I would like to thank the staff for excellent service. We were not happy with the room we booked, due to the view, and they were happily upgrade the room for us with river and the bund view (well worth the 300Yuan/night btw). The room service was quick whenever we asked for anything, even request to clean room at all hours of the day. I was impressed with the breakfast buffet, the happy hour complimentary drinks, the lounge area (my wife’s favorite, which offer coffee tea and cookies 24/7), and...

Suites are huge and worth the upgrade. Great gym, massage and spa. Restaurants are excellent, especially the chinese ones. We even impressed our chinese partners with the food there. Great showers, water pressure is excellent. Clean linens and towels make this another great spot. Safe, clean, wifi for westerners, and accessibility make this is a great choice.
