Pleasantly Surprised
My first ever hostel experience: I had a private room with an en suite, which was surprisingly latge, comfortable, clean, and accommodating of my remote work. I would recommend the private accommodation. Hostels are often ridiculed so at least give this one a chance.

4/10 Fair

It was ok
You do get what you pay for, and that isn’t a terrible thing. There was nice shampoo and conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom but no hand soap at the sink. You have to make your own bed and they tell you to leave the fleece blanket on the bed and bring the linen down to a dirty laundry basket, but this made me concerned that they don’t wash the fleece blanket they give you. I did not visit the common areas, but because they weren’t integrated to the flow of the rooms/lobby. I’m frequently in SF but it won’t be my first choice to stay here again. Also a decent hike uphill from the muni train.

The staff there are very unorganized. The bunks and lockers in the room are not numbered do you know which is a top bunk or bottom. Its a free for all. The was a ady who clearly had mental health issuses. She would have conversations with herself and would start yelling. She kept everyone in the room up. They are not concerned about customer satisfaction.

Good and bad= average
There’s no rules about smoking in the building or 20 feet away from entrance. Noisy ay night. Bathrooms don’t get cleaned thoroughly. Had to ask for toilet paper twice.

10/10 Exceptional

My favorite place to stay in the city, a nice place to stay in a comparatively good neighborhood with a good staff who keep the place clean and orderly. Highly recommend as a safe central location, up enough steep hills to keep the nonsense down. I suggest approaching from above on Bush Street rather than climbing up from Geary.

Good but a lot can be improved
the rooms are ok. People smoke right by windows and smoke comes inside. No eco friendly. Blankets are not washed every time someone leaves, they just fold them and put them back on bed. Bathromms are just wiped lightly. Laundry time is limited for guests. Mostly the cleaning crew use it most of the day. The kitchen opens late after cleaning most of the time. It's good for the price you pay, conveniently located and in nice area.

8/10 Very Good

The rooms were clean and relatively spacious. I stayed in a four bed, woman only dorm and the bathroom space was shared amongst us. It was pretty clean. The bunks could be improved with some privacy shades. The kitchen space is quiet small so you are competing for space at peak use times. The general area is pretty unsafe though, I was taking public transport at the start until some person tried to mug me in broad daylight on a busy street. I had to get rideshare from that point.
