We were visiting Bend for some shows at HH Amphitheater, and rates were wild at most of the chain type places we would ordinarily stay. I read reviews of Motel West carefully and decided that it would be alright for our three nights in town. I knew what I was booking - this isn’t a Hilton. Still, I wouldn’t return.
Plenty of things were fine. The rooms were clean. The bathrooms were newer. The fridge worked well. The location is good. We weren’t disturbed by other guests.
The beds weren’t as bad as they could have been but I certainly wouldn’t call them comfortable. The Motel West has a distinct scent, and it’s not pleasant. The internet worked for the first four hours of our stay, and then not again at all. I called the front desk who would tell me it would be fixed tomorrow, and hang up on me. Half of the outlets in the room did not work, which was sucky for us because we were staying after camping for about a week, and had some stuff we wanted to charge up, but we couldn’t even keep our phones charged. I had to charge power banks on the one working outlet while we were out for the day so that at night one of us could use the working outlet and the other would use the power bank. The AC worked, but not well. It was probably 10° warmer in the room than the unit said. We heard staff yelling at other guests for things like… using the ice machine, and asking for help when the vending machine ate their money. I’d probably try Cascade across the street before returning here.
