We went as a group of 8 for the rugby in Cardiff and decided to stay at Celtic Manor to make the weekend that little bit more special.
I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed in the overall experience given the amount of money we paid.
£20 per night to park in the underground car park, given the cost to stay, felt wrong.
Check-in was quick even though there was a small queue on arrival.
The front of house aesthetic was superb. Extravagant, clean, modern & spacious.
There was plenty on offer from bars to a small coffee shop unit or even retail shops in the Celtic Mall.
The room wasn’t anything special, no different to some 3* hotels I’ve stayed at. Quite spacious, but dated.
The air con was “working” but, it wasn’t. So it was 25 degrees most of the time which wasn’t great to sleep in.
That being said, the beds were comfortable.
There was a fridge in the room but, no complimentary bottled water.
The bathroom was big with a nice marble design and a separate shower area to the bath.
Definitely in need of some investment to bring it up to 5* standard.
Breakfast was a buffet style, which you expect in a hotel this size but, the quality was just “ok”.
A good variety of choices between hot & cold food. I liked the separate gluten free table (not that I’m coeliac).
You couldn’t fault the service, within a minute of finishing eating someone was there to clean it away.
Some people had dinner and rated the restaurants very highly.
Overall, 5* elements but, not worth the price.
