Gora Kadan was the highlight of my trip to Japan. It is beautifully kept and the service, impeccable. None of the photos do this ryokan justice. The private bath was nothing short of breathtaking as there is stunning view of the mountains. I enjoyed the open air and the indoor baths in both areas- the male and female areas are swapped every day for cleaning and it is worth seeing both as they have different garden views. On top of this, the kaiseki meal was delish as was the breakfast the next morning. It was a bit pricey to stay here, but I would do it all again if I could, it was worth every cent.

The hotel went out of their way to accommodate our annoying dietary restrictions (one pescatarian and one who doesn’t eat shellfish) - the food was fantastic.
