Understanding Krabi's weather and climate is key to planning a successful holiday in this beautiful province of southern Thailand. The point is that most travellers’ activities are done outdoors. Whether you’re planning an island-hopping trip, or willing to visit some of the hinterland attractions, the weather in Krabi will either make or break your day. Even so, note that online weather forecasts are often on the pessimistic side. A whole week with the thunderstorm icon doesn't mean it will rain all day!

Krabi has a similar climate to Phuket, with average temperatures lingering around 24°C to 32°C (75°F to 89°F) year-round. The wettest months are September and October. The area does not suffer from marked weather swings. Though pretty much any time of year is good in this part of Thailand, the consensus for the best time to visit Krabi is November–March.

The best time to visit Krabi is in the high season, which normally runs from November to March. That's when the weather is generally great, with temperatures averaging 28°C and with cool breezes that keep things comfortable. However, do note that a few rainy days may still occur in November and March.

What are the hottest months in Krabi?
The hottest months in Krabi are April and May, with temperatures ranging from 27°C up to 36°C (80°F to 95°F). You will also most likely witness frequent but short and heavy thundery showers during this period. Even so, they offer a welcome relief from the high temperatures and humidity.

The Thai New Year (Songkran) occurs on April 13th to 15th when everyone sprinkles (or throws) cool water on each other. Locals enjoy June, July and August since the weather is usually fine and favourite haunts remain uncrowded. The usual pattern is brief with heavy showers and plenty of sunshine between downpours. Everything is also a little less expensive at this time of year. Temperatures range between 20ºC to 33°C (70°F and 90°F).

The monsoon/low/wet season in Krabi lasts from June to October. Raincoats and umbrellas are mandatory during September and October, which are the wettest months of the year. One consolation is that hotel rates are really on the low side, and the beaches, outdoor restaurants and streets are uncrowded. This makes Krabi even more relaxing.

On the bright side, even at this time of year you still can expect long intervals of sunshine between downpours. In any case, plenty of low-season activities remains available in Krabi during the monsoon.
