Since the 1950s, Abai Village has been home to a community of North Korean refugees, which gives this district a distinctive atmosphere compared to the rest of Sokcho. While only a few hundred inhabitants remain, the village still contains homes that have largely been untouched since the Korean War.

Many of the villagers still rely on fishing, meaning the area is home to many of Sokcho’s most delicious traditional seafood restaurants. We recommend grabbing a table at the top-rated Sindasin restaurant.
