Pity Me

Pity Me offers a peaceful escape from Durham's city bustle with its charming residential streets and local pubs. This small village gives you an authentic slice of English suburban life, complete with friendly locals and well-kept gardens. The nearby Lambton Worm pub serves up hearty British meals and local ales after a day of exploring. Getting to Durham's attractions is a breeze with regular bus services making the 15-minute journey into the city center. Accommodations here are budget-friendly B&Bs in converted family homes, offering cozy rooms and personal host interactions at prices much lower than downtown.

Budget-friendly B&Bs in converted family homes make this neighborhood easy on your wallet. Most visitors grab a rental car for flexibility since bus service is limited. Delta Hotels by Marriott Newcastle Gateshead

Delta Hotels by Marriott Newcastle Gateshead

10/10 Excellent
"We had a lovely over night stay in a superior room on the 4th floor - room 420. We used the leisure facilities which were very good. Nice Spacious room. Can’t complain for the price we paid I guess. A bit of constructive criticism for the hotel to bear in mind: 1) please leave more than 2 milk portions. We only had two between us. We would have loved a few more teas and coffees but didn’t want to chase around for milk. 2) the room was warm but when turned on, the aircon was very loud, we did loose some sleep."

Lumley Castle Hotel

Lumley Castle Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"Perfect for couples. It was quiet with beautiful surroundings. We took a walk to the river from the castle, and it was quiet as though we had the whole grounds to ourselves. The food was delicious and the room was cozy with a spacious bathroom. We were lucky as there was a wedding on and as a result, we were treated to a nighttime fireworks display! For us a 10/10. But be mindful that there is no AC in the room - that didn't bother us but might be an issue for others. Also note it's worth checking if there are events on as we didn't realize that if we had arrived earlier, we could have gone on a tour of the castle and had afternoon tea. We are looking forward to visiting again."

"The hotel was great for what I was looking for. It was clean and airy and modern. The food in the evening was poor and unappetising. The gym and pool were well looked after and nice to use. It was a shame the lifeguard was talking to a friend throughout her time, lifeguarding the pool."
