Learn more about Monte Vista
Beneath the watchful gaze of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, thousands of sandhill cranes descend upon Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge each spring and fall. Their prehistoric calls echo across wetlands where bird enthusiasts aim cameras with religious devotion. The Transportation of the West Museum chronicles the region's evolution with surprising humor and detail. After watching wildlife, try your hand at the Monte Vista Golf Club where prairie views compensate for any wayward shots. The Great Sand Dunes rise improbably nearby, while Rio Grande National Forest offers cool respite from summer heat. This small town punches well above its weight in natural splendor, proving that sometimes the most memorable destinations aren't the ones with the most people.

Dunes Inn
"Older property, well-maintained. Would be happy to stay there again."
Hampton Inn Alamosa, CO
"The suite was excellent, clean, spacious. Hotel walls/floors were thin, and we could hear kids running around in the room above us. Breakfast was excellent."
Best Western Movie Manor
"The novelty of this classic old motel is that its rooms face a drive-in cinema. I dragged a camp chair out to be closer to the screen and see the stars. My room (small! —especially the bath) was located next to a service area which emitted a mysterious thumping sound. More entertaining than than the movie was a crazed naked man jumping around the parking area while I had my breakfast."

"La atención y y todo estaba limpio y cómodo"
Comfort Inn & Suites Alamosa
"Had a very nice stay. Good clean hotel with quiet clientel. Room was generally spotless with fresh clean sheets. Breakfast was very good but crowded. Get there before 8am to avoid the crowds."

"New and very clean"
Rustic Rook Resort Great Sand Dunes
"Wonderful place to allow everyone to enjoy the outdoors. Rooms were spacious and the view of the sand dunes was pretty. Lots of jack rabbits running around. Staff very friendly. Bathrooms were kept very clean. If you enjoy being in the outdoors this is for you, on windy nights the walls of the rooms do shake and can keep you awake if you are a light sleeper but I wrall I would highly recommend and would love to come back in the future. They also supply s'mores fixings on the evening at a fire pit, they have corn hole, sand volleyball and BBQ areas to fix your own food. Nice place."
Four Seasons Lodge
"There was no one of authority on site. We were not given the mountain view offered. Via text were told we had to clean up & put all trash in garbage cans. There was no a/c offered. Not enough outdoor lighting in the back where our room was. Bed was very comfortable. "
