Learn more about Sturgeon Bay
A working shipyard sits at the heart of this maritime city, where tugboats nudge massive freighters through the canal connecting Lake Michigan to Green Bay. The Door County Maritime Museum celebrates the area's nautical heritage with ship models and lighthouse lenses that once guided sailors home. Third Avenue's historic district houses galleries and shops in century-old buildings. Local fishermen still bring their catch to waterfront restaurants, where whitefish and perch appear on menus with deserved pride. The Farm offers hands-on encounters with rural life, while cherry orchards beyond town provide sweet rewards in summer. Rent kayaks to explore the protected waters where pleasure boats and working vessels share the same channels.

Cherry Hills Golf & Lodge
8/10 Good
"My wife and I spent three nights at Cherry Hill in August, 2026. On whole it was a positive experience. Highlights: the staff was wonderful - helpful, professional, cheerful, engaged. Many were European students working for the summer and I wish them well with their many adventures. The prices were very reasonable. The rooms were very clean. One challenge is unavoidable: it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, relative especially to the attractions of Northern Door. 15 minutes to Egg Harbor, which is the first major tourist spot. (The crossroads at Carlsville - winery, distillery, coffee - is nice but not a destination.) Two challenges that management might address: (1) the continental breakfast is a collection of plastic-wrapped, single-serving items - pastries and cereal plus refrigerated microwavable sandwiches, yogurt and milk - that didn't appeal. I totally understand the economics of it, but I still didn't want to eat it. (2) the rooms might warrant a bit of attention. Our toilet seat was snapped in half - which folks replaced - and our mattress had a serious valley on the right hand side. On whole, we'd happily stay again but we wouldn't go out of our way to do so, which is the four star-ness of it."
