"Excellent stay. Excellent restaurants close by. Excellent views of Lake Atitla...
Dec 2025 • Family
Great location. Minutes to lake front.
They have swings and hammocks close to the lake. The hammocks were extremely comfortable and one can sleep soundly to the sound of wind and wave. There are excellent views of the massive lake Atitlan from choice
locations scattered across the property or directly from your room that has large picture windows. There are outstanding restaurants providing all varieties of cuisines and we easily found vegetarian and vegan options. The town and street side shops are available within a few minutes. Five minutes walk will take you to a transcendental beach from which
mountains, mists, clouds merging with peaks and fresh air rejuvenate you.
There are local laundries that provide pick up and drop off service and fold clothes.
So far we didn't find scorpions as noted by a guest
The staff and the hotel owner were quite helpful and held our bags while our room was getting ready. I didn't experience the rudeness as described by an experienced guest in reviews.
There is a coffee roaster shop and cafe serving exceptional Guatemalan coffee within two blocks of the hotel.
Highly recommended. You will get a room facing the lake and sleep to the sounds of wind and wave."
"Room was clean and modern. Breakfast was delicious. Beautiful view of the lake. I feel the state of the pool and bridge over the pool should be updated. I thought it was a larger property than it was. Loud music playing by the pool and heard in the rooms until after midnight. "
"All buffet food is plentiful and fresh, the staff very kind and attentive.
Beds were comfie, dinner on Christmas Day was also very good.
All your staff made this guera feel very welcome. Mil gracias!"
"Art and coffee is truly a beautiful and stunning place. Unlike any other place, I have found on this earth. The staff are warm and welcome and inviting, fellow travelers are warm and respectful, and the whole town of Jaibailito is out of a dream. Which makes art and coffee fit so well."
"I paid for my stay though cheap tickets. It was prepaid and they over charged me and charged me for stay again. I have 3 charges from Saasil retreat now even though staff promised they won’t make this mistake because they stated they know pre-paid doesn’t show in their system. Thank God I only stayed there for 3 days. "
"This hostel is a great choice in Santa Cruz. It's right in front of the dock so no rolling your suitcase over rocky paths. It's also a 4 minute walk to the party hostel Free Cerveza if you want to get that energy and use their dock, and a 10 minute walk to nice kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming.
I stayed in a Private the whole time. The first was Balto and the second was Toliman. Toliman was gorgeous and had a lake view - would be great for a couple. I think I preferred Balto because at night it was cozier and quieter.
Family dinner is wonderful at this hostel and such a core part of the experience. I participated every night and loved it. The food was great and the company was amazing. There are also different activities each night and the Open Mic Night is a blast. People from all over the town come for it.
The highlight was Sam who was our hiking guide for the sunrise hike. The hike itself was gorgeous; on top of that Sam was really an expert not just with knowledge of the area but also with ensuring our safety and enjoyment. It's technically a short and easyish hike but I have chronic pain and limitations. Sam ensured that I was doing okay, had me hike at the front of the pack to help control the pace, and even gave me cookies because the sugar helps your body. We also learned so many interesting things about the volcanos, the lake and the local Mayan culture."
