Roeland Park
Roeland Park serves up a slice of genuine suburban Kansas City life without the tourist hustle. This quiet residential area offers tree-lined streets perfect for evening strolls and affordable lodging options just a quick drive from downtown attractions. The neighborhood puts you within easy reach of Shawnee Indian Mission Historical Site and Boulevard Drive-In Theater for some local flavor. Getting around requires wheels since public transit is limited, but highway access is excellent for day trips. Local eateries serve up family-friendly fare at prices that won't break the bank. Chain hotels and extended-stay properties provide comfortable, no-frills bases for exploring the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

Fairway
Fairway offers a peaceful slice of American suburban life just minutes from Kansas City's buzz. The neighborhood's crown jewel is the Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site, where three original 1830s brick buildings tell fascinating stories of frontier education. Tree-lined streets with well-maintained homes create a garden-like atmosphere perfect for leisurely walks through this authentic residential enclave. The area has limited dining options, mostly family-friendly spots with early closing times. While primarily car-dependent, the neighborhood features smooth sidewalks ideal for evening strolls. History buffs will appreciate the Mission's preserved grounds, complete with interpretive trails showcasing Native and pioneer heritage.
Westwood
Westwood serves up a slice of quiet suburban life just minutes from Kansas City's action. Spend your days exploring nearby attractions like Shawnee Indian Mission Historical Site or catch a flick at the Boulevard Drive-In Theater. When you're ready for more excitement, Crown Center and sports venues like GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium are just a short drive away. Local dining options are limited but homey, so you might want to venture to neighboring areas for more variety. The neighborhood's tree-lined streets and small parks make for pleasant morning strolls. Most travelers will want a car, as public transit is sparse and ride-shares are the next best option.
Westwood Hills
Westwood Hills offers a peaceful suburban escape with tree-lined streets and classic American charm. Visitors can stroll past beautiful brick colonials, Tudor revivals, and ranch-style homes while enjoying the leafy canopy of mature oaks and maples. The neighborhood's quiet atmosphere makes it perfect for morning walks when birdsong fills the air and gardens showcase seasonal blooms. Travelers should note that dining and shopping require a short drive to nearby districts. While public transit is limited, the neighborhood's sidewalks provide pleasant walking routes. Most accommodations are vacation rentals in private residences, giving guests an authentic glimpse into upscale Kansas suburban living.

"Great place to enjoy a weekend with the girls. Had a great time. Staff was amazing and very friendly and helpful. Bri in the gist shop was AMAZING!!! So fun and funny. Valet staff was great and took us to the restaurant for dinner and then picked us up when we were done. Pool was awesome but the bar staff at the 5 oclock somehwer bar by the pool left something to be desired for the most part. One employee was great, but the others were not so friendly--one was downright rude to us."

Hotel Lotus Kansas City Merriam
"It was an excellent hotel, The free breakfast was great. Pancakes with strawberry toppings were delicious. They had eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and home fries. The room was clean and comfortable, but a little on the small size since we had four adults in the room. We probably should have gotten a larger suite. That said, the refrigerator was very small. We bring food with us when we travel and we had to leave some fruit unrefrigerated since there wasn't enough room. Except for that, the room was fine. We used our own hot spot, so I don't know how good the hotel's wifi was. The parking lot was a little small. I don't know why, but on all five nights we were there, it was close to being full, even on Sunday night. That made it a little hard to park when we got back. However, part of the problem was that there were some times people who park in a handicapped space who did not have a handicapped plate or placard. One in particular was a grey Kia with Kansas plates. If this was an employee who just parked there because they knew they could get away with it... So the hotel needs to watch this and enforce the regulations regarding handicapped parking. But overall, this was a good hotel. We will probably stay there again the next time we're in the area."
