Learn more about Spruce Pine

Tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains, this small town sits atop one of the world's few deposits of high-purity quartz. Try your hand at gem mining at Emerald Village, where amateurs regularly unearth sparkling treasures. The Museum of North Carolina Minerals offers fascinating context for all that glitters in these ancient hills. Hiking enthusiasts can tackle nearby Table Rock and Hawksbill Mountain trails for views that explain why locals never leave. The Orchard at Altapass combines apple picking with Appalachian music and storytelling. After a day exploring Pisgah National Forest, chat with woodworkers at Woody's Chair Shop, where traditional craftsmanship continues without fanfare. Visit in May for the NC Mineral and Gem Festival when the town's mining heritage takes center stage.

"I booked this hotel for my mother and she said the following: Please give them a good review. I give this hotel an absolute A++. It was the newest & cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life. I felt very safe the whole time which meant a lot. When my housekeeper found out I was there because my son was in hospital…she took time to talk to me & give me encouragement plus she left me a sweet handwritten note. In today’s rushed impersonal world…it meant a lot that she cared enough to do this."

"Great stay for our weekend trip. The entrance to the parking lot was odd. The hotel room was immaculate. The staff was super nice. We really enjoyed it and would definitely stay again. Breakfast was okay. The waffles were the best part. We didn’t use the pool or even go in the pool area so I can’t comment on that. Don’t recommend using the vending machine either. It gave me a drink that expired 5 months prior."
