The ratings had us really looking forward to this stay and we wanted to like it, but were disappointed, mostly by the facilities. The staff, a family, is very nice and the breakfasts offered were ample and tasty. It’s close to the Stone Forest and there are shops and restaurants nearby, though the hotel doesn’t direct you to the latter. In fact, the village is of recent vintage, so don’t expect anything quaint. The big issue, however, is comfort. Rooms are spartan at best, with bathrooms bare concrete and the beds might be just box springs so they’re like sleeping on a board. Our request for an extra comforter for padding, in Mandarin, yielded nothing; they probably didn’t have one. To make matters worse, both a neighboring dog and rooster go off starting around 3:00 AM. Enough said?
