10/10 Exceptional

Great atmosphere, friendly people, idiosyncratic decor. I stay here every time l'm in Alturas.

This is a wonderful older hotel with lots of charm. Our room was decorated in a fishing theme, and the old gear is a lot of fun to examine.

Staff was very kind and helpful. The room was small and no TV, and no elevator. Bathroom was not great - stained/dirty tub and old sheet vinyl floor peeling up on the edges. the trek up the stairs was a challenge in our old age. But it’s definitely a unique property with obvious history and local significance. Notable was the excellent service and coffee/pastries at the in-house Starbucks.

6/10 Good

I used to love staying here because of the history behind the hotel. This time it was pretty rundown and they couldn’t keep the Starbucks coffee shop open at normal hours.

It was a quaint effort at keeping an old hotel going. Dining was good. Starbucks in lobby. Had local flavor.

It was good staff was friendly, everything was clean. The bed was uncomfortable for me but thats my preference.

Historic hotel in a quaint town. A lot of stairs and no elevator or tv. Comfortable and quiet and free Starbucks coffee and pastry in the morning. Be sure to arrive early because everything closes at 9am.

Antique place

Very old but unique place. Long flight of stairs to room with no help from staff with luggage. Fortunately I'm a fit 78 yr old. Very small room and had to drag an extension cord around for blow dryer, curling iron, & phone.

This is a very old, historical hotel so don't expect fancy amenities. However, it is very well kept up and comfortable. The staff are all very sweet and the room includes delicious pastries and coffee each morning down in their hotel lobby. The saloon has great food at night plus there's a great hamburger place or Thai restaurant just down the street. It IS haunted so have fun reading up on all of that history!!

Experience a great old hotel from the past

Didn’t know what to expect but wanted to experience the past. Loved the building and was surprised to see how much was kept old. The beds and pillows were perfect for all of us. Loved the sink in the room and the bathroom separate. Some of the old photos hanging on the hall walls, the eyes would follow you as you walked by. If stay there again in a heart beat.

Very nice historic property

We loved staying at this historic hotel, but a couple suggestions… additional Electric outlets would be nice especially in the restroom, had to curl hair and the only ones found were under or behind furniture and hard to get to. Also a TV would be nice!

This is a very quaint and older hotel, but I've stayed here three times because I like it so much. The rooms are charming, clean, and have unique character. Also, the beds are comfortable and the staff friendly. The hotel even has its own saloon!

Old hotel with lots of charm
Michael, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Room was very nice but the shower dripped loudly. We reported it immediately but was not fixed within the 2 days we were there. Second floor rooms are directly above the saloon causing us to endure loud music until nearly 11pm both nights. There was no ice in the large ice container on 2nd floor causing us to go to the bakery downstairs to get some.

I always stay at this location when I visit Alturas.

This is a historic hotel so creaky floors and noise travels well but it was charming, comfortable, and a good experience with the historical experience in mind. A very fun stay and experience!
