My girlfriend and I decided to book an 8 day vacation via Expedia.... We were in Mexico City and decided on a flight and hotel package.... The flight was with AeroMexico and was fine... When we got to Isla Mujeres, we asked the taxi driver to take us to the WorldMark Hotel... The trouble began when he didn't know where that was...
After asking a couple of people. he took us to a place called Villa Vera... When he dropped us of at the lobby... we walked in to find a man obviously surprised to see us... It turns out they had no record of our reservation, no internet, they were under construction and we had no way of contacting Expedia to let them know of the situation. He gave us a room, warned us not to get into the pool because of some chemicals they had just put in, and said goodbye... I can't express to you the disappointment we felt... To top things off, later that night someone with a flashlight started to rattle the doorknob of our hotel... I yelled out in surprise and they left. Getting woken up in the middle of the night in a vacant hotel was anything but pleasant... I figured and reassured my girlfriend that it was probably security.
The next day, I got a chance to talk to the manager. The man who tried to 'break in' was indeed a security guard who didn't know there were guest staying. We had construction workers throughout our stay, noise in the mornings... The list goes on... In the end, the staff was friendly and we tried to make the best of our situation...
