Well, City Lodge will not be for everyone. I am a man and only saw a men's dorm room and bathroom. The place was not charming, but it was cheap and practical. It is not pretty, but the staff do clean daily (I slept there for 4 nights). The staff were nice enough. I rented sheets, which were commercially laundered. There were lockers big enough for all my gear. The bathroom was reasonably clean and had good showers. One could come and go freely around the clock (if one had the daily-changing door code). Certainly, the location was central, a mere block from Central Station. I never felt unsafe, and the locker seemed solid enough for my stuff. Unlike some older repirts, there were no bedbugs or flees. The oddest thing about the hostel was that 3 of the 10 beds in my room seemed to be occupied by men who seemed long-term guests who seemed down on their luck. There were also these types who hung out in the lounge/kitchen area - not a problem, just there. I kept a bag with a few things in the fridge in the kitchen area, and it wasn't touched. In short, this place is cheap and practical; fine for a guy passing though and not seeking luxury. I can't say how it is for women - maybe also just fine.
