I had a wonderful one-week stay at Dar Amastan during the Gnaoua Festival and would happily stay here again. This riad had only been open about a month when I visited, but the hospitality was exceptional.
The location is excellent—an easy walk to the medina, beach, restaurants, and festival venues while still being peaceful. The rooftop breakfasts were a highlight, with fresh orange juice, traditional Moroccan breads and pancakes, eggs, honey, amlou, olives, and other local specialties.
The staff were warm, welcoming, and always willing to help. A special thank you to Rita, who made my stay feel especially personal. As a thoughtful farewell, they even gave me a small handcrafted wooden bowl when I checked out.
The room was comfortable and clean, and although I didn’t use the spa, the hammam and massage area looked beautiful and the prices were very reasonable.
My only suggestion would be to explain the breakfast routine to new guests at check-in, as I wasn’t always sure whether to go directly to the rooftop or check in downstairs first.
Thank you to everyone at Dar Amastan for making my first visit to Essaouira such a memorable one. I hope to return someday.
