Well kept and clean room, good breakfast in the morning, and really helpful staff, Only thing to bare in mind is the pub is closed on a Monday & Tuesday, so if arriving late, can be hard to find the place as it’s on a dark road

Cleanliness excellent and breakfast very good. We loved having a bath, very nice cotton sheets and towels, and good provision of teas, coffees, biscuits in the room. Two small downsides: commuter traffic noise in the morning, and some background noise of music from the pub downstairs till 11pm. Otherwise, everything excellent, and very good value compared with other places.

Really enjoyed our stay for three nights at the Blacksmiths. Warm welcome, great food and a very clean room. Traffic is a bit busy and noisy at times but not something you can do much about. Would happily stay again in this historic local pub set in stunning scenery.

Very clean room and a comfortable bed made for a restful base to explore East Sussex. The pub has a lovely Jamaican influence and we were sorry that we were not able to sample the menu on this occasion. Good for access to the coastal towns of Brighton, Seaford and Eastbourne as well as more inland places such as Lewes and Glynborne. Breakfast was excellently cooked and very tasty.

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night in order to visit Brighton but we didn’t wish to stay in Brighton. Jaz our host was so friendly, he also cooks which has to be the best Jamaican food I’ve ever tasted. Our room was spotless with an enormous bathroom and a marvellously powerful shower. Breakfast was a full English cooked to order absolutely perfect. I have no problem in recommending this as a great place to stay

We had a really friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar who was exceptional. The evening bar food was great - and the Jamaican additions made it all very interesting (and tasty). Our room was nicely decorated and everything was spotlessly clean but unfortunately we had no sleep - it was so incredibly hot. We had to keep the windows open as otherwise it was overwhelmingly stuffy and that meant we had road noise throughout the night and reggae music until gone 12. Such a pity as we were both tired and looking forward to some rest. Have to add that we visited here on the hottest day this summer and this is an old pub without air con - so we were fighting against the weather, one week later and our stay probably would have been perfect!
