The room we stayed in was absolutely delightful and well appointed. However, none of the guestrooms at this hotel have an en suite bathroom. The website does make that clear, but it’s several layers down before you get to that information. It was my presumption for a bed-and-breakfast hotel at this price level that all rooms would be equipped with en suite bathrooms, but that is not the case. It doesn’t make it for a bad stay, you just have to be aware before you go in.
The property itself and the rooms are relatively small compared to some others that I’ve stayed at in the area. They are, however, beautifully appointed, with acres of wood paneling and lovely furniture. Delightful China is on display throughout the property.
The breakfast was absolutely superlative. One of the best prepared and most delicious meals I’ve had in a long time. However, you do have to walk a block to a Companion B&B in order to eat. The Mathis House bed-and-breakfast is also a delightful place to stay, and has many items for sale throughout their tea room and boutiques.
I’d look forward to staying at either property again. It’s conveniently located in Toms River. But, if an en suite bathroom is a requirement, stay at the Mathis.
