Solid hotel, worked well for us
Simon, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Great staff, nice location. Could do with a bit of modernisations.
Andrew, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Friendly and helpful staff. Good parking, reasonably priced and good option for Goodwood as we, and several other were staying there. All acceptable and I would stay again. The property itself is tired and in need of refurbishment.
Chris Richard, 2-night trip

easy parking .friendly staff good food [evening meal] hotel is a little dated but very clean and comfortable room and large comfy bed
keith, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Satisfactory

It was OK, clean and on a very hot day a fan running in the room which was excellent. It was showing signs of ageing and could do with a revamp. In a single room bed comfy curtains cheap, bathroom old. Evening meal in the bar satisfactory atmosphere and service bit poor. Breakfast was very good indeed and good service.

Overpriced

£95 too overpriced for the standard of the room the reception staff not very friendly upon arrival the TV hardly worked the bathroom needs updating to reflect the price, the security of the room felt poor as the lock on the door was hard to operate and didn't feel very secure also the carpets leading through the hallway was very worn and tired on the plus the room was tidy and the bed was comfortable.

Lovely hotel with very helpful & Friendly staff

This was a business trip for cast & crew. All enjoyed the stay. Lovely rooms, excellent food with a good choice & good portions. Staff were extremely helpful & very friendly. Great location with parking at the rear. We had 24 on one night and the hotel managed beautifully. We would stay at this hotel again. Thankyou very much.

10/10 Exceptional

Good rooms and comfy beds. Plenty of room. Warm. Very good food. The staff were lovely, very helpful. Parking in the car park behind the Bear was free if you stayed overnight as we did. Would stay again if in the area.
Sarah, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Staff were excellent considering the booking I made on-line with Expedia was not on the Hotels system. Fortunately there was room at the hotel and the receptionist mad a new booking
Allen, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

This hotel is beyond the point of being acceptable

The hotel is in desperate need of a full refurbishment which is likely to be substantial The staff are making the best of the situation but the hotel is beyond the point where rooms can legitimately sell to the public. Specifically, the room was dirty. The shower was virtually impossible to switch on and when it came on, it was simply a gush of water. Worst of all, the mattress had collapsed making sleeping a distant dream. One side was ~inches lower than the other meaning one was constantly rolling out the bed. This was acknowledged by the lady on reception as soon i mentioned there was a problem with the room "ah yes, the mattress...." As they had taken my payment upon booking, i had zero leverage. I will take up with Greene king

Good overnight stay

The receptionist was friendly on our arrival. Our room was up many, many flights of stairs. It was small with dated furniture but very clean which is the important thing. The floor in our bathroom was very sloped and that was funny when using the loo as you felt you might fall off! We had a drink in the bar and the staff there were friendly there too.

Bear Hotel

Friendly team. Cleanliness is very good. Some aspects of the room and bathroom are dated and showing some wear. Very comfortable bed. Dinner good whilst order was not well taken with starter not provided and no sauces offered with main course.
Julian, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

The room was large but very dated. The hotel had few people in the restaurant so not inviting. The bar was sparse, but the people that were in were very noisy. Also the wine was not very nice at all. The only positive was the one barmaid, who was very pleasant and helpful by offering our dog some water and a treat. We will not be returning.
Kevin, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Basic English inn.

This was a basic room at an inn. The floor was slanted and the toilet had 500 year old plumbing. The bed was comfy. The room was clean. Could walk to town and train station. Some of the staff were friendly. Others not so welcoming. Not a high level of customer service but a cheap place to sleep if you want to explore the surrounding countryside or take day trips by train.
Lee, 6-night trip

6/10 Good

We stayed in room 40, the curtains were paper thin and there was a light right outside our window, which was on all night. The bathroom was very dated and the shower was a nightmare for my husband to use as it was so low. It was just ok for me and I’m 5ft 2”. We stay there to go to a festival in Portsmouth. It is walkable to the station and transport was good. You have to enter through the back entrance after 11pm which we were not told about, this was a bit worrying when all the doors were closed and we didn’t know how to get in but got there in the end.
Jeanette, 4-night trip

4/10 Fair

Access was very difficult with several flights of stairs to climb, totally unsuitable for elderly people. Secondary glazing removed hence the room was very noisy as it faced a main road. Curtains very thin hence street light ingress. Room floor sloped and generally the room and bathroom condition very run down. Hot water required running the tap for about 5 minutes, what a waste.
Paul, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Staff in the Greene Kings pub were really friendly and welcoming and the menu had plenty of choice. Food was very good. Really useful to have plenty of free parking onsite too. The room however and general feel of the accommodation was dated and dreery. Multiple doors and steps in different directions was confusing. My room had so many bumps, slants and angles it was like a crazy golf course. Furniture was ugly, scratched and damaged. Book here as a cheap (only cheap compared to usual weekend over charges) option and get what you pay for.

No sleep due to Loud Boiler noise

I had no sleep at all because of the loud noise of the boiler. I called the hotel emergency number to ask if they could change my room but nobody answered to calls or texts. It was about the worst room I’ve ever slept in and worst still that the hotel didn’t bother to answer their emergency phone line.

Faulty towers

Bathroom was completely flooded by the shower once I had cleaned it up I reported it to staff downstairs who said they would swap the towels and they didn’t bother The pub was shut because they didn’t have enough staff And then after we’d gone out somewhere else we came back to find the main gates locked and had to walk half a mile around the back of the hotel in pouring rain to get in Faulty towers was a nice hotel compared to this
Paul, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Room was clean, if a little dated. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
