The location is lovely, the outside of the building is lovely, our room was lovely, the gardens are lovely, the people are all lovely, the spa is lovely.
However …
We had three meals in the hotel; one evening meal; one breakfast; and, one lunch.
The service for the evening meal was quite poor, the food was not great (for the price), the service was extremely slow and quite poor (we asked for a glass of water six times and it didn’t arrive by the end of the meal). I think there was a problem in the kitchen. It would have been better if they had shut the restaurant and only served bar meals. Subsequently I was quite unwell. I had informed them I was gluten intolerant and I think one of the ingredients contained gluten. I was quite unwell the following day. We didn’t eat at the restaurant again.
We had a bar meal in the spa, which was fine.
We had breakfast on the last morning. When we arrived, there were no staff anywhere. A queue formed and eventually the guy at the front of the queue went into the kitchen to find someone. After that there were about eight staff serving. We could hear them chatting in the kitchen, so really needed some management.
It isn’t a very cheap hotel and we expected better.
