Having done some painful damage to my knee, I arrived walking with a walking stick. I was put in a room up several flights of stairs and there is no lift (but they don't tell you that on their website). I had to drag my bags up while trying to hold onto the banister to pull myself up the stairs. I saw other guests struggling with bags on the stairs too.
Yes, it was a hot night, but you could have almost cooked your dinner in the oven of a room I was put in, with only a small window and, being a hotel room with a closed door, obviously no through draught of any kind. A desk fan that barely moved a piece of paper around was my only source of ventilation, so I barely slept a wink, then had a 2o00 mile drive the next day.
I have had many enjoyable stays in Mercure hotels in the past, but I won't be returning to or recommending this one. I even ended up not eating because of the trip up and down stairs again that I faced, and it was too hot in my room to sit eating there.
I wouldn't normally give such a grim review of anywhere, and had some thoughtfulness of my mobility issues been forthcoming then I wouldn't be doing this now.
The hotel looked tired and it was too expensive for what it was.
