Not so amazing. Hotel lacks character or any atmosphere. Originally got a room just above reception which smelt like the open fires they had downstairs, I opened the windows to air the room and when I tried to close the window it fell apart exposing the sharp glass because the frame was so rotten. We were given a new room which was far nicer although much smaller - very pleased though as they had several Christmas parties whilst we were there and the original room would have been very noisy with merry people shouting! Hotel felt quite dated on the whole, the original room we were give (25) was particularly so and seemed quite dirty but new room better. Didn’t eat here and didn’t have any desire to either to be honest. Good location for Oxford and Newbury though. Went to The Red House nearby for dinner which was nice. The hotel have what looks like a lovely pool - and the reason we booked but later discovered that it’s been sold off and you’re not able to use this, the gym is a room which was closed too.
On the whole, for the price - I’d say the location was good, free parking too. But wouldn’t stay again. I’d paid the £10-20 extra for a different hotel with an atmosphere, cleaner, up to date with more facilities.
Be warned the lane from the road to the hotel is very rough, with plenty of potholes and rubble in the road.
