🌟 Unforgettable Stay with Mind-Blowing Homemade Food!
We stayed two nights at Hotel Monte 44, and it was a highlight of our trip! The hotel is super cute, featuring hand-painted stones by the host, Monika, and a vintage Fiat out front. Our room was clean and had a balcony with breathtaking sunset mountain views.
Monika made check-in effortless and warm. The food here is out of this world:
Breakfast: Amazing homemade jams (the mixed berry is superb!) and delicious pastries like poppy seed cake and apple-pine nut strudel.
Dinner: The food was so phenomenal that we actually changed our travel itinerary just to stay and have dinner here a second night!
Night 1: Homemade spinach spätzle with cream and ham, beetroot & potato gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce, and grilled vegetables with alpine cheese. The spätzle was unbelievable, and even the grilled vegetables blew us away with their depth of flavor.
Night 2: Beef goulash with bacon dumplings, the spinach spätzle again (it was that good!), and local mushrooms with polenta. I usually find polenta bland, but Monika slow-cooks hers using two types of grain for an hour—it was rich, creamy, and completely redefined polenta for me. The local wild mushrooms brought an incredible umami flavor.
You can feel the love Monika put into cooking with top-quality local ingredients. Monika, I miss your food dearly and hope to return one day. Thank you for showing us how amazing real Italian home cooking can be!
