The pool was chemically not safe, yet still open. As soon as we got in the poool room, it smelled heavy with chlorine. There was still salt on the floor around the pool. The first red flags were the incredible amount of rust around the room. Anything metal had a heavy load of rust.
We got in and immediately our eyes started hurting, it was hard to breathe, and just physically not safe. We immediately got out and washed off. As a chemist, this pool was not chemically balanced and the proof was in my silver wedding ring.
My ring tarnished, which is caused by the saturated amount of chloride ions interacting with the silver to produce silver chloride. This has never happened before and even had to look it up. The fact that this pool was still open and another family was there also for a short time before leaving as well is mind blowing. This was a health hazard for sure. The city should investigate this practice as judging by the rust on the metal inside the room, it’s been going on for some time.
