Arrived at the hotel around 6.30pm to find a young lady busy cleaning. I got the impression she was worked off her feet and quite possibly on her own. I was quickly checked in and shown to my room.
It was well decorated, huge bed, clean and modern bathroom with a lovely rain shower. Tv, although I didnt use it so no idea of what channels are available.
I went back to the bar for a drink and found the same lady much more relaxed and chatty. Im guessing she'd finished her cleaning and was now the bar manager, waitress and maitre'd all rolled in to one.
Recommended a lovely blonde beer and i relaxed in the comfortable and beautiful courtyard.
Dinner was perfect. A limted menu of 4 choices for the 3 courses but thats a perfect amount. It guarantees attention to detail unlike being bombarded with Beefeater style choices. I opted for a main and desert with the lady's recommended red wine choice.
I'm afraid i made that face when I tasted the beef brisket. You know the one when you've tasted something so good you look around at people with you and do that "oh!" noise? Well that was me, on my own so a bit embarrassing.
The dish was perfect. The wine was wonderful and despite the menu saying Apple Crumble, it was a flan. But it was still gorgeous.
I didnt sample breakfast as i had to leave early, but from my brief stay its easy to see that this is a quiet, relaxed and personal hotel. Small, well placed for road access and cycle lanes close by. An excellent host, superb food.
