This casa particular in Habana Vieja (Old Havana) owned and operated by Pablo Meneses was wonderful. Is it a 5 star with all the western bells and whistles, no, and i dont care for those anyway...a bunch of fluff for waaaayyy too much money i can spend outside the hotel. Pablo made sure i was comfortable and aimed to please and be of service. I had my own private good sized bathroom with a shower, a small fridge and aircondition. There is a key for outer door on the street, and a key to your private room. I only stayed 3 nites, and every morning, a cleaning lady spent almost an hour scrubbing my room and bathroom, while i sat out in the courtyard (sorry-NOT patio), savoring my breakfast, freshly prepared, cooked and served by Pablo. Not extravagant, but filling with 3 fresh fruits peeled and cut, a small plate of cheese, one or two eggs cooked how you want, a basketful of toasted baguette type bread, fresh fruit jam (no sugar added) and butter, fresh fruit juice/smoothie (no sugar added), a glass of bottled/filtered water, and, of course, Cuban coffee (i chose cafe con leche)...6$ USD each morning. Pablo's place is easy walking distance to the Prado. He will arrange taxis or contact tours for you. He also exchanges USD/EURO (maybe a few other currencies?) to CUP (Cuban pesos).
