We stayed in the San Felice superior double room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, though the bathroom is small and there is insufficient room for towels. Breakfast was plentiful and the staff were polite and friendly, but with very limited English. The villa is about 10 min walk from the Herculaneum
archaeological site. If not driving, it is best to arrive by taxi as the villa is difficult to find and the route from the train station is dirty and uneven for wheeled suitcases (enter the courtyard at Corso Resina 310, turn left, take the stairs, 3rd door on the right, phone the hotel to gain entry). Unfortunately, the large polished wood staircase makes the downstairs seating area rather cramped and uncomfortable, with very little space for personal items. The staircase was also rather slippery; in fact we each fell on it when visiting the bathroom downstairs at night. My husband still has the bruises!
