There are plenty of things to do on the 3 Nusa islands of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan, a cluster of small vacation islands around 20 km off the southeast coast of mainland Bali. You’ll find pristine beaches with coarse white sand, soaring cliff viewpoints, and sea views that can get very idyllic at sunset. The island also has a mysterious underground house, lush mangrove forests, and seafood farming villages.

On Nusa Lembongan, surfers can enjoy challenging breaks along its northwest coast, while divers can explore vivid reefs off its southwestern coasts and around the neighboring island of Nusa Penida. You can join a single-day cruise or opt for an overnight stay if you’re looking to escape the busy crowds in Bali.

What are the best things to do on the Nusa Islands?

Angel’s Billabong is a spectacular rock formation near Pasih Uug (Broken Beach), on the southwestern end of Nusa Penida Island. Both spots offer views of beautiful cliffs and pristine coastlines. There’s a pathway (with signposts) leading to natural pools that are suitable for swimming during low tide. It’s a good idea to come with reef shoes as the seaweed-covered rocks can get rather slippery.

Crystal Bay is a secluded cove with a 200-meter stretch of sand on Nusa Penida’s western coast. It’s one of the best places to enjoy snorkeling and diving – the water’s visibility can reach up to 30 meters. For the regular beachgoer, this palm-fringed bay is very clean and suitable for sunbathing. Near the shore, the waves are calm enough for swimming on clear days. There are also a few local warungs (traditional food stalls) on the beach.

Crystal Bay is scenic, being surrounded by hilltops on both ends and with the Pulau Batumelinjong islet dotting the nearby horizon. You can also explore the seaside temple, Pura Segara Penida, located halfway along the bay.

A shrine and a priests’ praying shelter guards its entrance, which is a narrow opening in a rock face. You'll need to stoop down low to be able to squeeze and get through. Inside, you’ll discover a spacious temple courtyard. Floorings before the main shrines in the cave’s corner are partly covered in white marble.

The project turned into a decade-long building obsession, and Goa Gala-Gala was completed in 1976. After the 7-meter descent down a hole in the ground, you will be astonished by Made's feat.
